Question about ratings and players .

Hello ,

I want to ask a question . For a year+ i maintained 1430-1480 range , then i passed to 1500 and the highest to 1550 and i stood at 1500+ for like 2 months ( these are all avg ranges of time ) . Now i get completly destroyed by 1250 players and i can barely sustain low 1300 sometimes falling below.

So my question is is the chess rating getting higher quality players at lower ratings than before , because when i started playing and i was at 1100-1200 i dont seem to remember people destroying me so badly . I mean ive seen players pulling 90%+ accuracy in 20-25+ moves plus games.Any tricks i try they spot them , everything i do is not working .
Also very weird is that i seem to meet alot of players that completly stuck me and im basicly dead in the water , then suddenly they give up their queen for nothing or a key piece .... wich is very very weird.
Thx

yes I'm experiencing the same. Would be nice if one could play people who are at around the same level, a little stronger or a little worser wouldn't it? Even at my low level at around 800-1000 some people are blitzing out moves and combinations which are ridiculous and those are not people who have just started climbing the rating ladder.

Same for me, I was holding my own at 1550, now struggling to hold 1350, on lichess my rating has been going up 🤷

Cvbagva

Same here 1700 to 1422

Spider_hip

Me and many people on forums also experienced similar things on both here and lichess. I think between some ratings there is high cheater pool. I believe these highly populated cheater area is especially closer to the websites's starting ratings. With time these cheaters get eliminated by the system or they get bored thats why we feel like 1400s are much easier than 1200s.

1700 to 1385. And it keeps decreasing.

Rely less on tactical tricks and focus on improving your positional understanding and endgame skills. Opponents in lower ratings might be spotting tactics better, but they can still struggle with long-term strategic play.

You don’t think it’s more reasonable that you are in bad form or on a bit of a decline instead of the entire player pool getting significantly better out of nowhere?
dmlyum

Bad form or a bit of decline are possible, but five different people just affirmed the same observation and other threads have raised the same concern. At what point does it become reasonable to entertain the possibility that there is some kind of trend that merits discussion?

medelpad
#9 what would there be to discuss?
dmlyum

#10, Fair point. Perhaps there is not very much that we can fruitfully discuss with the information available to us, but I find myself wondering about questions like these: (1) Is there an objective and statistically relevant trend of ratings dropping noticeably at certain rating levels or are these isolated cases? (2) If there is a trend, are there identifiable causes or are we simply guessing? (3) If there is a trend, are there any notable implications, whether positive or negative? (4) If there is a trend, should something be done about it (if so, what?) or is it merely an observation.

1100 rated peep on daily match almost defeated me tho like what even is happening here are their real rating being hidden? I saw something in the settings about this "hide the highest rating" section

There is obviously a trend. When you play 10 players in a row who have a 1400 elo playing at a 2000/ 1800 level. Somethings totally wrong. I don't know if it's the algorithm

How could you know what level your opponents play at? At best it's a guess.

I much more experience it in the 2000-2160 pool. There are a lot times they play really strong. And some days people are very weak. I got a feeling it is the thumbs up/thumbs down feature. If somebody will click not sport you mix up with the "magician" pool. Playchess.com was like that if you are a suspected something

There's not a pool like that here
