Why is it, that we live in a world where 1% (for argument's sake) of the population would be willing to pay $100 to enter a chess tournament, whereas the other 99% wouldn't enter a chess tournament even if you paid them $10?
Wouldn't it be better for chess as a sport, and form of entertainment, if 30% of the population would pay $20 to enter a tournament, but wouldn't pay more than $50?
I will blog more on this topic after I get your thoughts on this.
