quick moves as a strategy.

Hi guys.

From before I have played a lot of 15/10 min games and now I have started experimenting with 10 min games. My experience is that time is not a big issue in the 15 min matches, but in the 10 min games I often win on time.

My question is this. If you are playing an equal position, but your opponent is struggelig with time. At which point does it become a sound strategy to just throw out the first and best move you find?

sure its the perfect strategy if you want blunders and missed mates, but same goes for your opponent and if a realy tricky situation comes up atleast you have the time, while (s)he does not have any time at all.

I think using the clock as a tool to put additional pressure on your partner only really works when you are the stronger player to begin with.

I remember when I started playing timed chess I would often run out of time even in 30 minute games but as I got more used to the format I found a pace I am confortable with that allows me to do a little better with time. I would guess the same thing happens when you have enough games in other game types as well. I am not even a novice but it seems to me there is not much reason to force yourself to finish a game ahead of the clock when taking more time would allow for better play.
