Quiters

I feel like if a person quits a game and or resigns, and auto resigns from a game then I should get the points if I checkmated them. I play a game until the end even though I know I'm going to loose. Because I know I'm going to learn something. But to beat someone and only get 3 points that's not right. In my opinion!

A win provides the same amount of rating to the winner regardless of how the win occurs. There shouldn't be extra points in any other case, as it makes the rating system less useful.

If I win a game or someone resigns then I get around 8 points. That's fine, But if someone just quits and let's time run out then I get 3 points. That (to me ) should also be 8 points.

No, the rating is the same, all other things being equal. If you only got 3 then your rating was a lot higher than your opponent. It had nothing to do with the way you won.

Okay my opponent had a higher rating than me and yes I received 5 points this time, But if they played to the end or resigned then I would've received more points. https://www.chess.com/game/136328875968

You received 8 points, your opponent lost 8 points meh

RubberSoul54
No, it still depends on their rating versus yours.

Is Auto Resign still in place? The games I have played lately have included a lot of stalling. Many have gone 10, 15 minutes or more, and I don’t see the Auto Resign clock coming into play to force them to make a move. Or at least that’s how I thought it used to work. The stalling is very frustrating to say the least.

If you could comment Martin, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I just visited profiles of both the author and his opponent and saw how their ratings changed after that game

Now this scenario, I received 10 points for a checkmate, But if a player just stops playing then I get 3-5 points. This (to me ) needs addressed! https://www.chess.com/game/136329136608

emilio1689

What 10 points are you talking about? You got +8 points again, your opponent lost 8 points

prowannab

I can't screenshot, But the very bottom it says +10 . I'm guessing now that's not the points won for the game.

emilio1689

I dont know what points you see, your stats says it all

As posted, game termination type does not matter. If you win a game against a player of a particular rating and RD value, it doesn't matter if you checkmate, they resign, or they abandoned the game. You get the exact same points for that game, regardless

Martin_Stahl

You won this game by abandonment today. You got 8 points.

Oh c'mon man don't tell me you are confusing rating gain and loss with material advantage and disadvantage. What you say you are seeing is material advantage not the points gained or lost. The points gained are same whichever way you win. Surprising to say the least that you have been here for 7 years and are asking this. I hope your "doubt" is solved. Next time pls bring a more rational topic to discussion.

Martin, I wasn’t referring to that game. I am sorry if you misunderstood. It was a two games last week, which I reported, but an auto resign clock did not appear for either player. In the first instance the player made his opening move and then did not make a move for 12-15 minutes. Thanks.

I was replying to @prwannab

Auto resign only happens if someone drops connection to the server, as long as the game is past 10 moves.

RubberSoul54
Hi Martin. Got it. Good to know. Thanks for clarifying.

I screwed up and I admit it. I do apologize for my ignorance. But I do thank the community for making it clear.
