It is absolutely not ok to use a chess engine to analyze the position. Chess.com does allow consulting their games & opening database, but beyond that, you are on your own.
"Online Chess" and legal computerassistance?

To me I was tempted to use a data engine-but did not- as it is not in thetrue spririt of playing with competition

Chess engines to analyse the position is not possible that's cheating. But Opening explorer is possible. You can also seek help and advice and post it into your notes (online chess notes)

You are allowed use of databases, though. And you CAN play engine games, unrated, if both players agree. There are even some groups for that

What's this "you can also seek help and advice" ? In a rated game? I don't think so, but like everyone else here, I don't know where the rules are posted and maybe that's part of the problem......

You can seek static advise or information, i.e. plans in a specific opening or how to play rook endgames, but not advise about a specific position.
Hey members
I wonder if it is legal to use opening databases and/or chess engines when playing Chess online with one or more days per move??
I myself have used opening databases to assist my opening play in online chess (hope it's ok), but I do not want to use chess engines to analyze the position in middle and endgames. Are there any way to ensure that my opponents don't use chess engines either?
