Lack of patience?  I would say more like lack of consideration...If you aren't going to play, then do not sign up for a tournament.  It's absolutely mind blowing to me, that people think this is acceptable behaviour for someone to put their games on vacation for 6 months in a lost position.

I study everyday, plus work, wife and hit the gym and somehow I find time to make my moves within a reasonable time frame.

Agreed

I don’t like when my opponents go on vacation. I never play more than 1 or or sometimes 2 games at a time and it’s a disappointment when a game gets put on hold indefinitely. I haven’t complained about it when it happens though because it’s part of rules you sign up to when you start the game. On the other hand, it really would be awesome if you could make no vacation daily games. That way people that want to put their games on hold can play amongst themselves and people who don’t want to have their games on hold wouldn’t have to. It’s win-win.

You can report players on a player by player basis. As someone said earlier they have a spot specific for that. IMHO there is not enough abuse to warrant it being taken away from those actually need it.

Last time I went on vacation I brought my laptop with me....most hotels have Wifi and you only have to make about 5 moves every morning (would only total about 10 minutes for me) to really keep up enough with an average of 3 days per move, unless you have 30+ games going. This is the civil thing to do....

Except, for a lot of people playing Daily, it isn't just about playing a bunch of games and playing the moves. They want to really research each position, analyze the lines and go deep into the position. That can easily take hours per game, and potentially per move, over the course of the time control (so they may spend some time each day on each game over the course of the time control). They may want to refer to videos, books, articles, etc and if they really are on vacation or life has just gotten in the way, vacation allows them to set that aside for a bit until they have time to commit to the game.

Sure, a there are some that abuse it. When I get busy I have let games fall into vacation since I don't have the time to commit to the game fully. The thing is, other than tourneys, a person on vacation really isn't holding up anything. It doesn't stop the other player from playing other games, or doing anything. For tourneys, if people don't like vacation, there is the option to play no-vacation events.

As I have said before, along with others, it would be nice if there was an option for regular Daily seeks to turn off vacation or set a maximum vacation time option (a vacation bank). I'm sure a lot of people would like that and it would still allow vacation other games.

Yes, but that is irrelevant if the person does this in a lost position.  I've had a guy whom I have played several times in tournament play because for some odd reason we keep getting matched up.....He was in a lost King vs King and Queen endgame.  He made one king move a week for a couple of months to drag out the game, probably hoping it would time out.

I don't care what anyone says.....That is just plain and simple LAME.

That example is pretty lame grin.png

I know I always played a little faster in games that were completely won and would try to find the best moves in games where I was losing but maybe not objectively lost. But I try to resign if I feel I have no chances really at all.

If someone is honestly too busy to be playing, that's not unbelievable, it just means maybe correspondence chess isn't right for their time needs.

Games can last months if not a year or more and if you sign up for tournaments then you are potentially looking at years for all games to be finished if you do well. Needing time away is understandable and that being available is part of the rules here.

If a player doesn't understand what correspondence chess here actually is, then maybe that style isn't right of their time needs wink.png (or they need to make sure only to play in no-vacation tourneys or games if that ever becomes available).

IMKeto

I have had correspondance games last 3+ years.

Those who like correspondence with vacation should play with those who feel the same way, and vice versa for those who don't want to wait through vacation time. I guess it's just a preference, but two people who feel differently about it shouldn't be paired together. I think that would be a simple solution...

And this same guy, finally got a good position on me and all of a sudden, he couldn't move fast enough.  I honestly have grown to despise him lol.

Would it be useful to put a "no vacations" option in the daily chess challenge screen?

Absolutely. Seems like common sense. Also, there could be a "plus vacations" option for those who need the extra time.

If you join teams and/or only play in daily tournaments you can look at the sign up screen and it tells you right there if vacations are allowed or not. Only join the "no vacation" ones if that is how you like it. Took me a while to discover this.

Very true, now I remember that. They need to add that feature to daily chess challenge seeks for both friends or randoms.
