I've been on the receiving end quite a few times - both online and in real life

I have learned to not let it bother me - if people really are going to be so pathetic as to insult someone on the colour of their skin (as if being born with one colour of skin was anyones choice or makes them somehow different from everyone else) - then they really are sad individuals indeed

I am concerned though that some people have to put up with it more than i do - or that kids maybe dragged into the firing line - and its not right that people should dismiss this topic out of hand just because they assume that the victim of the racist slurr should be able to either ignore it or deal with every issue - issue by issue

I accept that society isn't going to change over night - and it will take time (maybe forever) for racism to become truely something of the past - but while it does happen people should pull together to show those guilty of displaying racist views that they are wrong to voice those openly

There are people (like young children) who are not in a position to defend themselves properly against racist remarks - and this is why the issue cannot be dismissed out of hand

Unless you've experienced it first hand from an early age - i am not sure you can ever appreciate how it feels

Agree with you Soorat. Racists are ignorant, and they should be challenged. Its just not acceptable.

As a vegan? Not likely.

TheGrobe

Not all monkeys are vegan. I'm sure you could find an omnivourous one to eat.

Expertise87

I'm vegan so I don't eat any monkeys.

corrijean

Monkeys aren't vegan, though.

TheGrobe

The ones at the Las Vegas Zoo are.

corrijean

I guess herbivorous is technically the same thing as vegan.

goldendog

Who cares whether monkeys are virgins?

ClavierCavalier

I think a vegan and a herbivore are very different.  The vegan abstains from eating all animal products, even though they can naturally do so, but herbivore has to eat plants.

corrijean

Now we get to revive our comparison/contrast skills. Laughing

Anyway, aren't most monkeys omnivorous?

Expertise87

Not really, almost all primates are herbivores, including humans (well technically we're frugivores). Eating meat causes most of our major diseases.

It's not the meat itself, it's mostly the chemicals they add to it.

bigpoison

Most primates are omnivorous.  That's why they got them sharp teeth.  Gorilla's love for termites was an early lesson that humans don't have the market cornered on the use of tools.

Edit:  See kids, this is what happens when you talk out your ass.  With just the barest of internet research, it seem expert' is right and, as usual, I'm wrong.  Apparently, lots of herbivores do eat meat, but that doesn't make them omnivores.  I'm so confused...

But it cures one of our most endemic conditions - hunger.
