The site uses the Glicko rating system that includes a measure of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. Players with a sufficient number of recent games will have a low RD value and a relatively stable rating. So, the amount of rating change will be lower after games.
You'll get more points if you're able to win against opponents a lot higher rated and lose more by losing against a lot lower rated players.
