rating stuck need serious HELP ?

Hey guys I just go finished with another tourney and noticed something a little disturbing which is I've been stuck in the 1500s for 4months now with little progress and when I came close to breaking the 1600 barrier for good during a really good tournament I lost to 1000ish player in the semi-final round and only managed a draw in the last round so I wasn't able to redeem myself for such a upset. It's clear that  I've still got some novice kinks to work out and was wondering what helped you get out of a particular rating range you've been stuck in for a long time.

I played through your last two losses. I noticed that you seem to come out of the opening badly. That's pretty inexcusable in correspondence-type chess. Are you using a database?

Here's a very large, free online database:

http://www.365chess.com/

Register then use the opening explorer, a fantastic free resource.

even for online play the only other thing I use is just a real chess board to get a more real view of what happening in a online game. Other than the other chess bored I don't use any other resources accepte my brain and for online play I rarely use my main opeings cause I like to experiment alot during caseul play. For the Original post the rating I'm referring to is my OTB one not online.

P.S. thanks for the website link but it's a website I already know of and use freqently when going over a game.

You need to post your OTB losses then.

Let the dog see the rabbit, so to speak.

I was stuck in the USCF 1600s for nearly 2 years when I was starting out.  4 months is nothing.

Here is another data base: just add the http:// before the site chesstempo.com/game-database.html

First of all what is tour rating level as an improvenment progress plan is baseddon the rating level if you are 1800+ you do not need to know where the pieces can go on the board. Besides your bad openings what else do you have problems with in a game?

If you tell us your weaknesses and possibly with some games you played here at chess.com, just give the link go to the game and copy and post the link, we might be able help to you. General statements are too vague to even attempt to give an answer.

That seems right. Well during my last tournament I had trouble coming up with ideas in closed positions for the middlegame in which case some draws occured from positions I was slightly ahead. Another thing I noticed was being very exhuasted soemtimes (I can say there were 2 rounds I simply felt dog tired from the very beggining of the games from my previous tournament).

If you are scared of the BDG, you can bail out into the French Defence or Caro-Kann.

Here's the BDG I mentioned when I said I lost to the 1000ish player. I'm sorta scratch that really embarresed to show this but we all make mistakes so go easy on the insults pleaseEmbarassed.

Looks like a case of sandbagging.  That is not a player playing anywhere close to his or her level.  Am I to assume that there was some rating limit to qualify for this tournament?

jamesmaster888

I fell for something similar too

Idont think it's sandbagging cause the guy still didnt win the tournament or even come in the top 3.

I just kept playing.

My point is that you're always gonna get stuck somewhere or other, and there's nothing really you can do about it besides just studying and practicing the way you always have been.

Back in the days when I was actually still improving, I averaged 100 points a year.  So I repeat:  4 months is nothing.  Don't worry about it.  It's frustrating, sure, but then you also get those spurts in growth that just seem to happen overnight.  For example, I was in the 1700s USCF for about maybe 3 weeks. Smile

There you go again, terrible opening play.

f5 is the move from hell and one that BDG players pray for. It's greedy and very weakening, Nf6 is natural and correct.

AndyClifton

Oh and btw I once lost my queen in a very similar manner to that BDG game...in a Ruy Lopez (when I was still in the 1600s, for what seemed like forever).
