I got a book called "The art of the middle game" and in it there is some weird way they write moves that I haven't seen: 1 P-Q4, Kt-KB3 2 P-QB4, PKKt3. How do I read this?

You have an old book. That is the descriptive notation I grew up with. Find someone who played in the Seventies. They'll translate.
