Maybe so.

Most of these come off as a tempest in a teapot to me, on both sides of the issue.

lol, no.

Preggo_Basashi

And if human rights is an attack on your religious group, I recommend leaving that religion right away... I feel like this shouldn't have to be said, but oh well.

DigitalStrike

Off topic, but someday soon we'll have a man as a women's boxing/MMA champion. The whole thing is utter nonsense and I'm by no means prejudiced against anyone at all. Whatever happened to the days when if a man felt like a woman, he was simply gay and went about his business however he pleased? I'm saying men here, but I mean women as well. I might feel like the sexiest man in the world but that doesn't change the fact that I'm a 200 lb bald man with a beard and tattoos that works construction and smells like a wet dog every day (at least right now in the summer). How you think and feel can easily change WHO you are, but not WHAT you are. Only way to do that is surgery. And, please, before anyone gets their pissy panties in a knot, I'm not being hateful or discriminatory, this is just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own.

Preggo_Basashi

It's not someday, it's today @digitalstrike. Men can compete for women's medals in the Olympics.

But you can't do it just because you say "I feel like a woman toady" you have to have been on hormone therapy for __ amount of time (my memory is something like 6 years, but my memory is bad so feel free to google it), and other restrictions I've forgotten.

If someone's brain is physiologically different, and that can be shown through e.g. scans, then I'm not going to dismiss it as fantasy... I mean, "a 200 bald man with a bread and tattoos" is not someone I want to see wearing a dress or acting girly, lol, but treating people with respect is more important to me than playing make believe, that the world only works in ways I personally want it to.

Well let's see. Magnus is the World Chess Champion.  Rated #1 in the world in Rapid and Blitz.

BUT he's never held a woman's title.  Suppose Magnus transgenders and now identifies as a woman.  And legally changes the name to Maggie Carlsen.

Then Maggie Carlsen can simultaneously own both the World Chess Championship, and Woman's World Chess Championship.

Surely Mags Carlsen would then be regarded as the strongest player in the world for both women and men.

Maybe, but it's a USCF thing not a FIDE thing.

And since FIDE = Russia, and they jail or execute people like that, "Maggie" Carlsen is more likely to end up like Alekhine than holding dual titles I imagine tongue.png

(edit, looks like that's not true, never mind)

I have enjoyed playing in USchess events for most of my life, and am appalled by their recent statement to allow one "change" to a player's gender identification on their profile. Here is the article: https://new.uschess.org/news/us-chess-transgender-policy/

Besides being plain stupid, this is also an attack on many conservative and religious groups who have strong beliefs against transgenderism.

Why?  They don't have to take advantage of this allowance if they don't want to.

Additionally, now men will be allow to play in women's only events if they identify as female. How stupid is that?? Can we keep men from joining women's only events? This is tremendously unfair to girls who wish to play in girls events, and will now have to deal with boys joining their tournaments because they "feel" like a girl.

No.  Now more women will be allowed to join women-only events that they may have been barred from entering before.

If you agree, please post below and notify USchess how appalled you are at this new development.

So if I identify as a nut, will they have to call me Mr. Planters?

Expect your government issued monocle to arrive shortly, at taxpayer's expense.

Lol, good point, Everyone would be in an uproar if Fabiano Caruana was the 2019 US Womens Champion

This the the kind of news that I'd expect to see on April Fools Day. Sadly, that's not the case...

Propugnator2

Agreed, its flat out ridiculous that this is "normal"

Preggo_Basashi

Yes, it's absolutely absurd. It upsets the natural order. People should know their place.

So your solution is to respect people by letting them make believe and thinking they are the opposite gender than what they really are??

Also there is danger to this all. Say you have a teenage daughter, and a man starts using the girl's locker room at her school because he "feels" like a girl. You cool with that?

Why would a "man" use a school locker room?

If the boy's brain is physiologically different, I'd have no problem.

Propugnator2

I think you know what I meant.

What if he just says its psychologically different, so he can use the girls locker room because he's a sick person?

Preggo_Basashi

On the other hand, obviously, if boy says "I feel like a girl today" then those 6 words are meaningless.

Preggo_Basashi

Look, maybe 1 in 1000 (or less) students are transgender. If you're a X that feels like a Y, I think it's fine to say to that student "ok but you have to use X bathroom because we say so, learn to live with it."

At the same time, if they let X use Y's bathroom, I don't care either. It's not a big deal. By the way, bathrooms in some European countries, for example, have been unisex for a long time. No problem. This is what I mean by a tempest in a teapot.
