There's a 'New' button.  Why would anyone bother with a rematch playing the same person who they don't know anyway rather than playing a new person?!  There are a lot of very clever people on t'internet though who are able to devine the exact reasons why someone thousands of miles away rejected their rematch.  Their skills are truly incredible.

I envisage this:

Player A (a 14-year-old boy) plays Player B (an adult and so-called “rematch crybaby”).

Player A beats Player B

Player B requests rematch with Player A as he can’t believe he just got beaten by a kid.

Player A accepts

Player A beats Player B again

Player B requests rematch with Player A

Player A accepts

Player A beats Player B again

Player B requests rematch with Player A

Player A accepts

... this goes on until finally on game 11...

Player B beats Player A

Player A requests rematch with Player B

Player B declines.

Player A never hears from Player B again.

Player B tells all his friends that he beat “some kid” at chess.

...and if his friends have any brains, they won't be impressed by an adult boasting of beating some kid.

The definition of an adult is not requesting a rematch in the first place tongue.png

I’d disagree with that, but I would refine it slightly by saying, the definition of an adult is one who requests a rematch, but doesn’t cry when it is declined.  happy.png

As a rule, I expect people to decline rematches so I don't even ask for them either way. If I thrash someone, I don't accept rematches but if it's close and I win I try to offer them to the other player.

Thoughts...?

Myrms1

If and when I become good enough to start winning chess games, and I was offered a rematch by a player I beat, it would really depend on how easily I beat him.  If I beat him without even having to work for it, I’d decline and look for somebody else who can actually challange me.  If it was a close match I would probably accept.

However, all you Chess.com players; don’t lose any sleep over the fear of me declining your rematch just yet.  I just played my cat, and he soundly beat me. cry.png

First thing I do when I start a match, is to say "Hello good game" even before moving the 1st piece.

It's called courtesy / education.

If my opponent does not answer to this basic rule , forget about a rematch.

Have a nice day!

glamdring27

I have chat permanently disabled to save my opponent the trouble of the courtesy of not distracting me from the game.

Shirinsky

And I suppose that in a live game you don't shake hands with your opponent, so you don't get distracted? Maybe you should take some pills to help you focus if saying "hello" distracts you ^^

glamdring27

Yeah cos everyone just says 'Hello' in chat.  I haven't played live chess for a while but I'm pretty sure my clock doesn't start ticking the moment I agree to a game.  Plus sitting opposite someone is a totally different matter to just some faceless entity online.  I join a chess site to play chess.  If I want to chat I'll do it to real people.
