removing "friends"

There doesn't seem to be a way in v3. Go back to v2, and in the "home" tab, there's a friends button. Click it and it takes you to a list and you can remove them there.

You can do it in v3. Easiest way is to go to Share > Friends, on the website, and click the remove option (person icon with an x on it)
