Because you have to claim the draw, by clicking the draw button when the position has been repeated three times.

Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I haven't figured out the pattern. Sometimes repeating it 3 moves automatically draws the game. Sometimes you can repeat 10-15 times before the draw is registered. And sometimes you need to offer a draw manually.

Threefold position draws are not automatic.

You have to claim them, when the repeated position is still on the board. If your opponent has made a move bringing about the third repetition, click the draw button. If you make the move, you have to claim it before your opponent moves (if he varies).

It may "seem" like it was automatic to you if it was your opponent that claimed it!
