I want to know if this game will end as a draw before checkmate because of the king repeating a move three times.

Thank you

Nothing in the rules says anything about repeating "a move" three times.

I remember a rule that said if you were about the make a move that caused a POSITION to be repeated at least three times, you could claim a draw.

It may work at chess.com that if you repeat the same position three times then click the "Offer Draw" button, the game will be ended as a draw.

no draw. Both sides have to repeat the same moves three times. Actually you just have to reach the same position three times. It doesnt have to be in consecuative order.

chess.com will automatically draw the game if the position has been reached three times. No user action required to claim the draw.

Which is incorrect because when u reached for the third time to the same position Arbiter cannot automatically draw the game unless the player who has to move claims for it. This is a little bug I've seen in many chess sites but it's not important anyway. Here is the Article 10.10 of the Rules of Chess (by the FIDE):

10.10

The game is drawn, upon a claim by the player having the move, when the same position, for the third time:

(a)
is about to appear, if he first writes the move on his scoresheet and declares to the arbiter his intention of making this move; or
(b)
has just appeared, the same player having the move each time.

The position is considered the same if pieces of the same kind and colour occupy the same squares, and if all the possible moves of all the pieces are the same, including the rights to castle [at some future time] or to capture a pawn "en passant".

I have never had chess.com automatically draw the game if the position has been reached three times, but several times, after making a move that repeats the position for a third time, I have clicked on the "Offer Draw" button and have had chess.com instantly end the game as a draw.

Yahoo, on the other hand, will end the game as a draw regardless of whether anyone claims it.

It appears to me that chess.com's handling is closer to FIDE's rule than any online system I have seen.

Why this can happen?I lost on time because the guy repeated his moves 57!! times!

Something should happen,a draw or anything because this make the game pointless.

I don't want to play a game if it's all about how fast can i repeat the same move!

why didn't you claim a draw instead of moving your queen on the last move.   If what NM DavidForthoffer said is true,  all you would have had to have done is hit the offer draw button.

Yep, I just beat a player who didn't know this: if a position is repeated three times, YOU MUST CLICK "DRAW" TO FORCE / CLAIM A DRAW.  Otherwise, the game will simply continue, and you may lose on time.

EDIT:  Although, it would be nice if the "draw" button would get an outline when a force-draw is claimable or when the opponent has requested a draw, instead of requiring players to know the usage.

EDIT2: Just opened a ticket for this feature:

Highlight "draw" button when a draw can be claimed

Might want to comment this up if you like the idea, it may cause site devs to take notice and add the feature.

I don't know about live chess but in on-line chess if the position is repeated 3 times with the same player to move the offer draw button changes to claim draw.
