Playing out a lost position is not exactly the most fun thing to do
Resignations
does anyone else not like it when people resign, or is it just me?
i like to finish games, and am a bit disappointed when an opponent resigns (especially if they still have a chance )
making this because i just realized, since i just played like 3 games in a row where my opponent resigned
It depends on rating levels of the players.
At my rating level, I won't be too happy if my opponent drags out the game to mate, even though I have no choice but to play them out to mate.

At his rating level, blunders are aplenty.
And allowing a game to reach checkmate allows him to sharpen his checkmating ability. You never know, he could build up an easily winning position and not know how to deliver the checkmating blow.

I guess you're right, I didn't check their rating level beforehand

If he wants to work on his mating ability, he can set up the position in which his opponent resigned, and play that position vs. the computer.

It might not be the same. Computers dish out what they deem to be the "best" moves, and furthermore, they dispense their moves at regular, consistent time intervals. Compare this against human players at his level who can make more "random" errors.
Playing such positions against human players may have a different feel from doing likewise against bots.

this has happened to me an embarrassing amount of times, and has even costed me a few games because i missed an opportunity to checkmate
also yeah, i prefer to play against real players to learn/get better, because bots don't make many mistakes, atleast not in the ways humans do
Not to worry! I have missed a lot of checkmates in all time controls and have allowed as many equally embarrassing checkmates as well!
Even this smothered checkmate in 7, which players like shady_neighbour and BigSplat2018 would easily see with zero effort, is missed by me fully in a bullet game!
can you explain that one? i don't see it
1. Qc4+ Qd5 2. Qxd5+ Be6 3. Qxe6+ Kh8 4. Nf7+ Kg8 5. Nh6+ Kh8 6. Qg8+ Rxg8 7. Nf7#
If Kf8 at any point then Qf7#. It is actually a quite common idea which you will learn to recognize by playing more or solving puzzles

It's not immediately obvious to many players who have not seen this idea before. It's an idea involving a smothered attack - that is, an attack which ends in the opposing king being checkmated because the king is trapped by friendly pieces.
In that game, I made a stupid move Nxh7 instead, though I still won the game somehow at a later stage in the game.

Different people feel differently about resigning.
We've seen plenty of threads complaining about people NOT resigning.
The only resignations I mind are when someone is clearly sandbagging.
I have come across a few questionable resignations where it looked like I had a significant advantage, but there were definitely lines that the opposing player missed that would have equalized or but me at a disadvantage. Can't think of anything in particular, but something like, I have their queen and rook forked, but they missed that they had a check.

i never would've thought about sacrificing the queen there (also im kinda familiar with smothered mates, but ive only achieve them like twice), and my first thought was at turn 6, my mind went to 6. Ng8 instead of moving the queen to g8, but i now see that wouldn't have worked
