"I have blocked you proactively".

Who is "proactively"?

I can't find that username in the database.

And now kaynight wants "unproactivley" blocked too...

And why doesn't he just post that in proactively's notes? I don't care if someone blocked proactively, unless proactively is a disconnector and then he should be banned ... proactively.

Study middle game variations for ever ?

That sounds like a prime activity in that other "destination"...you know, the really, really warm place where all the SINNERS and MONSTERS go...

The aftermath comment "Good game" has a tendency to become a patronising insult. I've won and lost games where the opponent has said "gg". I'm like, "really?"; that was a sh*t game.

I've done the same thing to belittle my opponent. After my opponent blunders queen and loses, I offer a rematch, type gg AND offer a friend request. And if they sit in the chat and don't leave, I call them a coward.

It is patronizing. Anyone who denies it is deluded and narrow minded.

What a Charmer.

The only time I have ever said "gg" is to an opponent who has played as equally as you have and the win for either side was determined by playing a good game that was a close call for victory.

Just as there is fine line between genius and insanity, many on the chess.com sit just shy of being really smart. Similarly, there is a fine line at the crux of chess mastery, between heaven and hell. Understand, when you learn to love hell, you will be in heaven. Clearly you love chess, but do you love Hell eciruam?  Well, do ya? Maybe you don't love hell enough, and your games are dying for your sins. Did you ever consider that? Maybe you need to visit this nice lady, to have your eyes opened.

The "gg" trope has it's own subtle permutations of meaning within the chess community.

For some, a ritualistic compulsion to say it after every game; for others, carefully administered in consideration of respect for a worthy opponent, win or lose.

And yet again, it can be a bliunt instument of ridicule and contempt for those who need the additional validation after winning a blunder-filled rout.

@Syd... And therein lies the rub.  gg, like the Bible, is open to widly  varying interpretations and the cause of many chess wars. For some gg is salvation, for others, merely a salvo

I only say gg when I lose, or if it was really close the whole game and I happened to win the ending just by being a pawn ahead or something. I'm not guna say it if one of us blunders on move 6 lol. However, the last few I've said gg to the reply was f### you, and I never hear gg so I don't see the point anymore. If I win I just move on, if I'm lost I just resign and move on.

@ewq85 - When I play blitz I just want to play and play and not talk. Get on with it.  No ill will.  I know when I'm outplayed and so does the outplayer.  I can tell when they got lucky and when they outsmarted me.

I don't know if GGers are usually re-matchers. I rematch only occassionally. I don't see the point of worrying about it. It's not obligatory. I don't want to be decoded, or played until exhausted and then defeated. I want to win and move on. I like variety.  Just win the first time. Or lose. That's it. If it's that important, they should win more. Sorry, I digress.

I love it how everyone has their own very precise set of rules about when you are allowed to say "gg." What a bunch of etiquette experts.

In fact, it's quite simple: People who say "gg" are arrogant and patronising and should be banned. People who don't say "gg" are rude and unmannered idiots and should be banned

When in doubt, push

Or type gg, and be loved or hated, then care or don't care.

Personally I don't do rematches and I find it comical when people go off on me for refusing. I guess some people just can't handle defeat and feel entitled to a chance to get their points back.

Maybe if they gg'd me, I'd rematch, unless they also posted a graphic of the middle finger, in which case I might rematch.

Avatar of Syd_Arthur

Perhaps protocols need to be established...

Like if computer analysis determined that the game was close enough tp warrant a "gg"?

Otherwise, the player may "have violated our a Fair Play policy and may have thier account restricted".

Those kind of sanctions may inhibit frivilous and/or abusive use of the abbreviation.

Aren't the cry babies the ones who are crying if they don't get the rematch they demand? The ones who don't rematch are probably feeling fine - they won and they're moving on.

"gOoD gAmE"  would be more convincing because it adds your personal style and lets your opponent know you've really put some thought into it.

Langri Tampa's thing on how to be a doormat makes no sense. If you have benefited someone somehow and they do you terrible harm you have to see them as your holy Guru i.e. learn from them? And if you are constantly reminding yourself you are the lowest of all and regarding dickheads as precious jewels where will you end up man!?
