If it is really a good game then all say gg XD
Resigners who say "gg" are the Bodhisattvas of the chess world

I try to always say gg win or lose ... Sometimes the loss is too painfull to make any comment and I just want to get on with another one. It's funny how a loss can be frustrating and painfull and win is usually just nothing much really ... I don't ever really feel like gloating about it unless it's a much higher rated player or a really lucky escape. Perhaps that's why we learn from losses more from wins as losses tap deep into out survival-psyche and force us took improve. GG all :)

@BrainStrainBishop - earlier in the thread, the merits saying "gg" on winning were debated. I've found it more prone to misinterpretation. The intention may be good but the reception may not be.

There would so much less whinning on the forums, if people would just play their chess games, following tgese 5 simple rules:
1.never win
2.never draw
3.never resign
4.never play a losing position out to checkmate
5.never disconnect
.
And that's how simple it is!!
Now I ask you, is that asking too much??????

Once you rise to the level of BM (Beginning Master), you should be able to answer your own questions. May the horse be with you!

gg is a bit uncommon in relation to the standard RTS-type gg. That's why gg could come off as taunting in some games.
If one side just plays badly or both do, I wouldn't write gg unless they do.
I never take a gg as insult, but always as good sportsmanship, even if it might not be intended that way. It might be more annoying for someone trying to insult you with a sarcastic "gg" if you write an honest "gg" yourself. I also respond to ggs.
If there were multiple games, I always write "ggs" after the last one.
As I understand it, the losing side writes "gg" first, and the winning side responds with "gg", and both ggs are written before the actual resignation.

ff3g0, the key is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you can weild gg very effectively. Alternatively, when you learn to take offense at everything, you no longer need worry about some stooge getting a sarcastic "gg", or sarcastic anything, for that matter, over on you. As long as you have forgiveness and humility in your heart, it's okay to be offended by everything.

I...don't know how to react, i often say "gg" when i've lost or when i resign, because most often it was a good game, i did not know this was even an issue, hm. I almost never say anything when i've won though, since everything i can think of saying is something i would not like to hear myself if i had lost, so usually i don't say anything.
My name is Erik btw, do i get a donation? X3

Hi Swedra. In the short term I've asked everyone to send the donations to me to hold in an interest bearing escrow account, until I can sort out which Erik the money should go to, if any. It's a pier review process, insofar as, I go down to the pier, think about it for a little while, and think 'nah' and defer taking action until I can reach a satisfactory conclusion at some point in the future.

GG! ;)

People actually get angry with me for saying gg when I lose. Odd.

Cute. Don't know what it means, but cute.

Sometimes something cute is just what your conquest needs to feel better about themselves and the world. Rather than "gg", which is not working so well for you, might you consider doing something cute, to cheer up your opponent?

Eh, it's another approach, I guess.
