Respect in Chess: Easy wins and poor temperament.

Yesterday, I played two bullet games in which I simply moved the knight back and forth while the opponent developed his pieces.

In the first game, the opponent paused a couple of times during development, and after he'd finished developing and made a few moves, he resigned. I believe he resigned because he was 12 seconds down and figured he would not recover the time or mate. Other than that, it was uneventful.

The second time I tried it, I didn't watch the pawn advance to the sixth row and I got checkmated by a pawn because I hadn't developed anything and left the f7 pawn vulnerable.

So after the game the guy calls me an idiot and leaves. I left him a note saying he was disrespectful and he deleted it. I posted another saying he was disrespectful and he left it there, visited my page, swore at me and called me an idiot again.

I left another note that said it was a good game, I hadn't provoked him, and he was being a poor sport.

I'm not sure if it was my persistence or the fact that I mentioned it was a good game, but he made amends.

I'm just glad it happened and I hope disrespectful behavior happens less in the future. Respect between people is important, and I know it's hard for some to remain respectful when emotions run high.

Look at this! I'm not trying to insult you, but here you are, moving your knight back and forth (who's being direspectful?) and I think if one of my opponents did that to me, I'd be pretty upset.

Ps. The clock isn't the only importand thing in chess.

Actually I agree with the OP, respect can be important in chess, that is why I believe the OP should start respecting his oponent

@kaynight Respect doesn't depend on any environment.

@aman_makhija But I am insulted. You can comment without suggesting it's an insult. You're welcome to your opinion, but don't use it to insult me.

Moving my night back and forth gave me a time advantage, but it gave the opponent several tempos to build an advantage in space. Eventually I have to respond to this space or be crushed like I was in the second game.

I understand the value of time, tempos, and space for example. You have disregarded the advantages granted my opponent in the above case. Disregard is a form of disrespect.

I'm not upset by your comment, but it contains elements of disrespect one might call upsetting....
