Restrict live chess games to premium members only

Hi Guys,

I recently signed up for premium membership (gold). I was under the impression that I would be able to filter out non-premium members in live chess. The only setting I found was for seek graph ( chess.com support also pointed to this setting). But it is not working. I have played 5 games and 4 of them were non-premium members. What did I miss?

Thanks

Just out of curiousity, what caused you to be under the impression that you would only be playing paying members? Did someone at chess.com say that would be the case? If you were led to believe something that isn't true I"m sure a full or partial refund is likely.

IMKeto

There is an option in Settings.

Yes. I first googled and found this thread: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/suggestions/premium-members-option-in-live-chess

This is why I assumed that I can filter out non-premium members. I understand this is not an official thread, which is why I'm seeking clarification.

Yes you should be able to filter your seek graph to see only premium seeks. That won’t however, cause any seeks that you yourself create to be matchable by premium-only, they’re still open to all.

Thanks. This sucks. I am constantly running into cheaters...people with 600~ tactics rating and 1600-1700 blitz ratings. I thought this would be a way to avoid this.

Yes, this is enabled. This is what chess.com support gave me. But I don't think it works as I would like it to work/it should work.

How does a low tactics rating affect whether or not someone is a "cheater" ? if they were clearly lacking in skills they would not have such a high rating. They must obviously play well enough to be rated 1600+. Not to mention that playing the tactics is not required, and many forgo it completely.

You have tactics rating of 837 and blitz rating of 1075. Do you think you can beat a 1700 player with no mistakes/blunders in a 30-40 move game?

I wouldn’t get overly worried by it to be honest. There could be many reasons why someone has tanked their tactics ratings. My tactics is about 500 points lower than my strength as I use it for training with students etc...

Hi James,

These are perfect games as far as the computer is concerned. No mistakes, no blunders. Respectfully, I don't think these are just good players who somehow messed up their tactics but ended up playing well.

Thanks

Tactic being low doesn't mean much. Tactics is by no means a reflection of someone's ability. Some players just mess around in their tactics not really bothered about that score.

I don't think you should worry about it too much. I didn't come across many people I thought were cheaters in 3 or 5 minute blitz progressing from a rating of about 1000 to 2000. Some of them might be but most aren't because most people on live chess just enjoy playing chess during their spare time. There are some weirdos who obtain some type of satisfaction from having a high chess.com rating by looking up moves and not actually playing chess, but they are the exception.

Nice pivot. I don't think I can defeat a 1700+ ranked player, but you didn't answer my clarification question as to how people with significantly low tactics ratings are "cheaters".

Brithel
My rapid rating is 1427.my tactics 1100.that doesn’t mean I’m cheating.
Brithel
A month ago my tactics were at 700

If you are referring to people opening up stockfish in another tab in order to find the perfect move, I believe that would be more common in rapid games, not as much in blitz.
