Result of inability to play

If a player starts a game, but feels sick before the game ends and is unable to complete the game, what is the result of the game?

What if a player is scheduled to play, but does not turn up because of feeling ill?

The result might be the player left at the board winning by default when the flag falls.

But is it fair for the other tourney players? Being left at board does not show that the player left is better chess player than the competitors who are fighting to win?

Should the result instead be loss for the player who cannot play (he has bigger worries than losing the match), but only a draw (half point, not whole) for the player left at board?

That same thing happened to me at The Delacney UK Schools Chess Championship
