The Chigorin is certainly playable but I don't think it's a particularly strong opening. Also many of the players who respond Nc6 to Reti are actually not familiar with Chigorin, and play the knight there because they want to play e5 and don't know what to do if you play Nf3 attacking the e5 square.
If you want to play Reti, you need to be prepared to transpose to other openings. There are countless transpositions possible, and if you're not careful you can end up in your opponent's favorite opening with you not understanding the theory for that opening.
So you bought a book, and are asking people how to play an opening that the book you have is supposed to teach?
