Right Way to Study Masters' Games

I 've got a few books with annotated masters' games but i can't decide which study plan is the most beneficial one: 

1) Try to predict the next move and play through the game

or 

2) Follow the moves and try to understand the meaning of each one of them, before read the author's annotations and comments

You could also use it as an opportunity to practice visualisation skills. See exercise 8 :
