rude players sending rude messages

Hi. Not my intention to start a flame but my short experience on chess.com has not been very pleasant. I get messages from opponents saying ‘get my arse handed to me’ and such on more than a few occasions.

I am new to chess having played Go for more than a decade and it is very rare for Go players to be this rude. Just my experience and I trust there are many wonderful players arounds.

Just wondering is this a norm that I have to get used to if I continue this chess journey?

Many thanks.

Most folks are pleasant.

block, report, move on

santiagomagno15

It is quite normal, but just block them and move on, is not big deal

You can report them here:

After that? Block, and move on.

Send them a Trophy with an insulting message on it

Not that I play online but this sounds like sledging (very common in cricket).
If you are playing on a computer have a file with a few replies pre-typed that you can copy and paste:
"When I want your opinion I will throw you a bone"
etc.

The people who are sending those messages to the OP are just kids who probably don't behave properly in any other arena of life.

This is the second thread about it in the last couple of hours.

Man up, ignore them, or block them... Damn!

Bullet_Lover;  You joined 10 days. Why do you want to join the "Keeping it Real" club.?

I have found that the rude players usually show themselves on blitz games. When this happens (maybe 3% to 5% of the time), I normally send them a separate private message explaining how little of a person they are. Then I quickly mute and block them, because I don’t know how to take the high road.

On the other hand, I can’t remember having a rude encounter on a daily game. I generally wish my opponents a good game to try to create a friendly atmosphere. Also, say good game whether a win or loss. It is a good way to find some chess friends out there too and, at minimum, demonstrate positive intentions and reduce the likelihood of any negative interactions. 😄

But sometimes it's the only way to reach out and share the joy

There are some rude players, just try not to pay attention. Another option is to just block them.

Here's an example from "open discussion"meh.png

I don't think you understand...

And even if you don't, send it to a mod, you can't post stuff like this in normal forums.

Don't let her manipulate you like that... holy cow.

RJC is right.  Open Discussion is completely out of control.  Aggressive sexual harassers and abusers run the group now, because the staff-selected administrators are ineffectual.

I sent Erik a message about this months ago.  It is his site; he can do what he wants.  But I am pretty sure he does not want to worry a cesspool on his site.
