I was just wondering if anyone on this site went to a school that had a chess team?

My high school doesn't and Ive never heard of any school that does.  But I always hear them referenced on TV shows and stuff.

When I went to high school we did not have a chess team.  We had about 15 to 20 people that liked to play chess.  So we played chess during study hall, lunch, and after school.  We did not even have an advisor.  It was just young people who liked to play chess.  Sometimes there would be 4 to 6 games going at a time.  Also those that weren't playing were usually watching others play.  Also some people who didn't know how to play would watch and the players would teach them how to play.  It was great.  It was like our own after school progam which kept us out of trouble.  We learned to think.  I looked forward to playing chess everyday.  I was not to active in sports or academics, but with chess I found a release.

My schools each have a chess team, or at least a chess club.  My regular junior high school's club isn't really very organized, because we just come, play chess if we want to, and we mainly just hang out and talk.  We don't study anything about chess, but we do get to go to a few tournaments.  My other school (it's for advanced classes, I go to it for half of the school day) just started a chess club, and we study chess theory and play chess, plus go to more tournaments.  I don't really know how that's going to be, because we've only had one meeting, but it should be really helpful.
Anyways, yes, schools with chess clubs really do exist.  A few schools do have enough geeks to make going to meetings worthwhile.  :)

Lucky.  My school doesnt even have a club.  All we have is a games club but everyone ends playing Guitar Hero.

My highschool does. We meet every Thursday. I'm trying to get better using the internet so I can beat our teacher. If you want to come to this school I can tell you where it is. Fellow chess nerds are always welcome!

I'm in a chess club, it's a great way to improve. If you're not in one, I highly recommend it, you're missing out if you're not!
