On a slightly different note, which schools have active chess clubs with regularly rated tournaments or tournaments within easy commuting (walking or public transportation) distance?
Schools with good chess scholarships

Sorry, I'm not an expert in TX chess, but Schulenburg looks like a pretty small town with only one public high school (Google maps). I wouldn't expect it to have a chess club. Since Schulenburg is between San Antonio and Houston (90 minute drive to either city), a school in one of those cities would probably have a chess program. Otherwise, take internet chess lessons (or from chess.com) and have him compete in tournaments in the larger cities withing driving distance. Austin is another city that's about the same distance, too.
Hi,
What schools offer chess scholarships?
I did a quick internet search and found the following schools:
University of Maryland, Baltimore County
University of Texas at Dallas
University of Texas at Brownsville
Webster University
Lindenwood University
Are there any others out there?
