I was watching Searching for Bobby Fischer, and I found an error. In the final game, Josh does not have a forced win. It should be a draw.

I forgot to add this variation:

46... Nh8 47. Kg7 a3 48. Kxh8 a2 49. Kg8 a1=Q is also a draw as long as white doesn't separate his king and (soon-to-be) queen.

That is right.

yeah i think he mentions that on one of the chessmaster games, they changed it for the film, I think (and i may be wrong) that in the original game it was a draw but thats all he needed for the title so he won.

Yes it was a draw in the original game, just enough for Josh to win the tournament. That game is presented by Josh himself in the Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition.

I never knew anything about the original game, but that's interesting. However, when both players hung their queen earlier, I had to wonder about the actuality of the game they played.

Most of that info is available on Wikipedia.  They have a great article on Searching for Bobby Fischer that explains the game and the changes that Bruce (Pandolfini), Josh, and the filmmakers made to dramatize the final game.

It wasn't an error, so much as the game on screen was intentionally different than the one played in real life for dramatic purposes. Movie-makers do it all the time. ;)

That's true. But by error I meant an error in John's play. Though after reading an article on Wikipedia about the movie, I realized that this is already known.

Actually, Waitzken's challenger is named Poe, not Sarwer in the film.

You are right. There I go mixing up reality and fiction. :)
