Searching for chess compositions from given position

I have a number of (given) positions, which I think are chess compositions.

Is there a website (a database perhaps) I can search to find the composer and/or solution?

Harold ter Heijden (or van der Heijden or something similar) has compiled a very large database of chess studies (some 60000 I believe) that is available commercially. I'm not sure if it includes problems (mate in x), though.

Maybe try the Chess Problem Database Server.

It only includes studies (where the stipulation is "Win" or "Draw"). It is excellent, though; available through his website (and it is van der Heijden, incidentally).

The link to Chess Problem Database Server was quite helpful: I found one problem.

Any other free resources I could use?

(yes, I know what Google is)

Meson is another, similar, database. I don't think it contains as many problems as the PDB Server (it's a younger project), but it may be some use.

There are various free collections of problems dotted around the net in various formats, but they tend to be small and themed; they might offer a file with all the mate in twos by Lev Loshinsky, for example, or one with all the problems published in Pravda between years X and Y. These can be great for browsing or if you know what you're looking for, but if you just have bare positions with no other data, using them may be more trouble than it's worth.

Of course, you could also try posting the positions here; maybe somebody will recognise them or be willing to look them up.
