Seeking Christians Who Are Active Chess Players

Guys, if you are a Christian AND you love to play chess, please come check out our group at:

http://www.chess.com/groups/home/christian-tournament-group

It is under new active leadership, and we are beginning to create both vote chess and team chess seeks.  This will also be a group of fellowship, a place where we can discuss God's Word.

Look forward to seeing you on the team!

BirdsDaWord

We have just commenced a team match, and will begin another soon.  However, we also have just started two vote chess matches - one with the White pieces, and one with the Black pieces.  Looking forward to some good games and fellowship!

This is an invite to a group.  I don't plan on discussing religion here, simply stating that a group is under new leadership and seeking active chess players.  Since it is a group that revolves around Christianity, then it would ask for active Christian chess players.

I didn't know it bothered you that bad that religion was implied in asking about a group.  I highly doubt if I had started a forum on a group catering to an opening (which I have before) that it would have troubled you.

Promise, no religious discussion from me in this thread.  Only asking for active Christian chess players.

Like no religious... blah blah blah?

If it generates a religious debate then I'll either delete those comments (if the OP wants) or I'll move it to the "Off Topic" forum.  For now it seems fine though.

I sent you a request to join the group

Is it ok to tell religious jokes?

My mum is 86 years old and its the only joke she knows.

I'm sick of hearing it.

If it's going to create offense then probably not.

I suggest we all calm down.

Let's talk about the Monkey's Butt (i don't like using the word 'bum') opening.

Is there a group?

Doesn't appear to be but you can always start a thread.  This topic doesn't belong on this thread though--this thread is simply for the OP to advertise their group.

MortalWombat

Ok, so here's how we're going to do this now.  This thread was meant to advertise the OP's group, not to spawn a debate on religious morals and whatnot.  Any blatently off-topic comments will be removed.  Mutliple offenses may result in a temporary mute on your account.

I do prefer to simply delete nonsensical posts.  Even in Off Topic, it might still get good exposure, but I think the idea is valid for the General Section, since it is chess-oriented.  Thank you.

EDIT - I see you are doing that.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH!  Highly appreciated, I like the idea of getting people who are like-minded together to compete on this site.

I've only heard back from one other moderator and they're also of the opinion that this is fine here so it'll stay.  I can't promise how often I'll be able to drop by to remove troll posts through--this has already been a significant distraction from my work day.

Free group publicity!

Keep the insults coming...until they get deleted :-)

HAHA!  Let's please not :D

I will post 1x a day or so, maybe every couple of days, to update with status on what is going on chess-wise in our group, and what I plan to do.

Right now, we have 2 vote chess games that literally just started, and a team chess match, and I plan on starting another team chess match shortly, probably once we hit about 100 players or so (we are at about 90 right now).  This way I can ensure that new players will be hungry for some fresh team chess matches.

Okay, GAME ON!

BirdsDaWord

Okay, today's update - we gained about 10 new active members last night, which is great!  However, our numbers actually went down yesterday, because I cleared out the group from any members who have not logged into chess.com for the last year.  This will more closely show our active numbers, as at least a third of the group was inactive for 1 year or more on the server.

We should be kicking off a team chess match soon, AND I hear talk of some tournaments that we might be holding between different Christian groups in the near future.  If you are at all interested in any of this, please come check out the group mentioned in the OP.  Thanks!

Hey BirdBrain. If you really start a multi-group tourney, my Christian group (the Christian Competitive Club) would be interested in participating. :)

Send a message to Bulletheadbilly in the Common Ground Chess Chapel.  He was the one who was mentioning this idea, I kind of discussed it with him briefly yesterday.  I think it would be a great tourney for fellowship and fun!

Group update for today - we gained about 11 members last night, due to this thread and to inviting friends who are interested.  Therefore, I sent out about 15 invitations for commencing some Team Chess matches, and we should have one underway in a day or so.

BirdsDaWord

Update for the day - the group is up about 25-30 active members since the time of launching a campaign for new members, so that is pretty awesome.  We are now also discussing setting up a big tourney that extends out to different Christian groups.  I will probably start a new forum for that, once the time comes, so we can invite members as they post interest in the tourney.

As for our group, I will be seeking another Team Chess match today, as we have so much interest in the current match, not sure that everyone will get a go at the tourney!

BirdsDaWord

Okay, we are about to kick off the next round of tournaments!  We are doing our 2nd Blitz tourney, as well as a 3day Correspondence Tourney.

If you are interested, we are still taking entrants.  The cutoff is Monday 12AM EST.  Please post here, or PM me or ijgeoffrey.  Thanks!

BirdsDaWord

Update - we just finished the 2nd CTG Blitz Tourney!  The top three positions are as follows!

#1 - SJFG

#2 - Birdbrain

#3 - Zigwurst

A big congratulations, as well as a thank you to everyone who made this tourney run smoothly!

We are still in the middle of our 1st CTG 3-Day Correspondence Tourney, ran by ijgeoffrey!  Looking forward to seeing how that one pans out.

We will be preparing for the next tourney, which will likely revolve around one of the chess variants that can be played in V3 (Live960, 3-Check, King Of The Hill, Crazyhouse), and MAYBE a standard tourney, simultaneously.

If you have interest in checking out our group and playing alongside fellow Christians, check us out at https://www.chess.com/club/christian-tournament-group

God bless!
