I've never heard the term selfie before. But anyway, there's no problem mentioning you're a girl, I'm not sure it gives an advantage either. Some idiots may treat you different but that's life in general, not just chessplayers.

I personally like avatars to express something about the person:) I think there are no disadvantages that I am in fear of by disclosing that I'm female, but I think there are disadvantages of posting your actual picture on the Internet. But really it's up to you what information you can handle disclosing about yourself:)

me too I never heard of it, where did that word come from anyone ?
It means taking a pic of oneself. Not sure where it started, but it seems to be part of the lexicon now.

As a noob, I'm unsure as to whether my avi should be a pic of me or a random pic of something I found on interweb... is there a preference? What do you look for? Status? The avi? Rank? And also... is it an advantage or disadvantage admitting to being a girl?
