Server Issues or Cheating on the App?

The last few days, I really just can't get a complete game in (10 min, blitz) on the Chess.com app without the server disconnecting me - I get into an auto-reconnecting message and the clock ticks for a minute, I don't reconnect and then I lose.  The weird thing is that in the majority of games that I have lost due to the disconnect, I had been winning.  Also, most games that I have been able to complete were ones that I have lost.

Have lame people found an exploit or are these just server issues that fall on unlucky times for me and I am being paranoid.  I personally would never use a server cheat to get my opponents to disconnect.  I mean this is supposed to be fun and stuff and also competitive in a pure way.  But I have literally had 10 or so disconnects (one last night after my opponent dropped his/her queen) in the last 3-4 days.... my rating has dropped over 125 points and I feel like I've been playing decent chess for myself in the last 5-8 games.

Is there no possibility that your own connection was causing the problem?

It looks like your rating has repeatedly suffered large fluctuations. The most recent drop doesn't seem any more severe than your previous ones.

Have you modified your connection settings recently? One of the settings does concern connection method.

Ha, thanks for your comment.  It is true that I have had some very streaky points..... and it usually has a lot to due with compulsively playing though I am absolutely exhausted and spent (and losing).  It's like I can't believe I'm losing and just keep going.  Actually the start of my present slide was due to that..... but I have just been dogged by disconnections the last few days - over 10...... ok, I am going to chalk it up to just server glitches......... those server settings are interesting but I am pretty sure they do not apply to the app.

Ok, whatever, it may sound like sour grapes or a problem solely on my end, but i have had 10 disconnection losses all with good internet signals since saturday. If there has not been any specific issue with the server over the last 2-3 days and there is no cheating than thats good to know

There are too many coincidences to think it is random that so many times as soon as My opponents are in trouble in blitz or bullet my time goes haywire and freezes! I am pretty certain tech savvy hacking types can cheat by disconnecting their opponents. Chess.com must address this issue immediately or it is not worth paying for membership!

If your suspicions were correct, then how do you explain people like me who are never "disconnected" when playing via a cable connection?

I am afraid that the only explanation is that the disconnect comes from your end.

I know how frustrating it must be. It used to happen to me back in dial-up days.  Try playing over a wired connection.

No, I'm afraid that's not possible - please see Why did the clock times suddenly change? The clocks seem broken! for the actual explanation.

The Cheating Discussion club can help you understand what actual cheating looks like: if you believe an opponent is cheating, please report it to the Support team via Help --> Report Abuse

I am now locking this thread.
