Who was it who said that they never beat a healthy opponent?
Should Carlsen's title be revoked?
It's true. Carlsen sets a terrible example. I really expected him to change the world and usher in a new era, but he is just barely winning one tournament after another.
To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually came in second place in a tournament one day, but do we really want to let things sink that low? Think of the children and what will become of them without a real role model. Are we going to let them have only the example of this Swedish Svengali who through psychological tricks and a patented soporific style of play is able to bore his opponents to death and win against them consistently with endgame tricks that succeed only because his opponents play significantly below their true strength?
Carlsen deliberately lost 2 games to make the tournament more exciting to him, which proves that he is a godlike existence.
Would you give a crap about breaking 2900 when your already the highest rated player in the world?
Understandably people get nostalgic about the days of Kramnik and Anand now when we have a World Champion that disappoints so much in tournaments, if Carlsen's opponents hadn't made mistakes in a couple of the games he might even have finished in second place or at least had to share first.
I think they should check his moves against a computer, such poor play is more like Fritz than Carlsen.
...there is no place in chess for him...he needs to go. We shall wear black socks every time we play, until he does. The Chess Commissioner needs to fine him US$2.5million and suspend him from the game indifinitely. The Board of Governors need to meet asap and force him out of the 64 squares...he shall no longer play chess for the rest of his life...until these demands are met, we shall down our bottles of orange juice on center court before each game...so say we all...we are one...
Kasparov never lost 2 games in a row as a World Champion. Or did he? Fabelhaft?
In his 1990 match against Karpov, he lost three games in row.
Well...its ok.. Losing 2 games in a row is more horrible. So, even Great Kasporov did not loose 2 games in a row.
Who was it who said that they never beat a healthy opponent?
It was Polgár Zsuzsa (Susan Polgar).
When she was still a kid and started beating the well known strong men in the chess clubs, they often made exuses, such as "Ah, but I'm too sick to play", etc. and so she responded once: "I've never beat a healthy man in my life".
One of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. You think past Champions didn't have bad games? Bad tournaments?
Botvinnik TIED with Bronstein under some very suspecious circumstances. That end in them taking his title? Hardly.
I'm no Carlsen fanboy, but he won the title fair and square. Until someone beats him over the board to TAKE the title, he is the world champion. Bad games or no bad games.I don't care if he loses 20 games in a row. If they aren't world title games, he's still the champ.
As "the nature boy" Rick Flair used to say.... "to BE the man, you've got to BEAT the man".
It's only a FIDE title anyway. It's not like he won a real world championship that the entire planet can recognise.
First Mike Tyson.
Then Lance Armstrong.
Now Magnus Carlsen.
Is there no end to this list of my personal heros who fall from grace??????!!!!!!!
@Varelse1 There you are again my friend! Yes, really a shame about Magnus Carlsen ... rating is slipping really low! I believe that he shaved 1.2 points after winning the Shamkir Chess Tournament! What a disgrace! lol Again, heard rumors on the WORST FORUM thread that you're getting married! ... If true ... then ... CONGRATULATIONS!
