When you go to the Olympics, drop by the Chess Pavilion and check out the action.
The original Olympics included plays and poetry competitions.

I didn't know that Senior and you raise a very good point. Sports are not limited to events of pure physical strength.
chess is also a physical activity. not only that brain is a part of the body, I remember the time when I participated in live matches, and very often that I lost weight of 2or 3 pounds during a match, similar to when I go running.
Perhaps if players vigorously sweep the board whilst moving chess could be accepted.
i agree
See tjhis. It might come in 2024 in Paris!!!

Probably be 2025, given the current fiasco. But rapid Chess would be great for Olympics. And the team section in particular. Millions of people would take up the sport.
I agree with the lion. If people are exposed to chess as an Olympic sport then millions of people would at the very least look into learning the game.
Does anyone here seriously wish that Magnus Carlsen, in the next world championship match, take out a pair of boxing gloves and start beating his opponent to death? I mean yes, its funny to imagine, but seriously?
no, chess is not a sport, playing a board game should never be considered as a sport, you can leave all your mental gymnastics about chess players needing to be fit etc, but the truth is, none of the top chess players are fit, and none of the board games should ever be consideres a sport or an olympic event

Chess is only a sport if all the pieces are carved pieces of stone weighing 220lbs. (About 100kg)
Sure. Have the Olympiad in conjunction with the Summer and Winter games. No problem.
