Should chess be the pastime of only wealthy intellectuals and playboys?

There is some concern of late that riff-raff, serfs and and those without pedigrees have entered the royal sport of chess. Should chess be the pastime of only wealthy intellectuals and playboys?  Yes or no, and please justify your position.

I've always liked the street/in-the-park style of Chess... that atmosphere could make the sport more popular.

Chinese chess, for example, is a loud game- you yell at your opponent, taunt them, and slam the pieces down as loud as you can.  At least in the games I've seen. 

A bit of chutzpah could do the game some good. And a bit less "I'm a genius" pretentious d-baggery. 

Maybe we could make a "FIDE Street" video game.    :)
