should chess.com show the opening in live chess?

Some people just like the taste of eggs.

Urk has claimed to be considerably higher rated OTB than blitz, and hence that blitz ratings are deflated. I don't believe that blitz ratings are really deflated, so I just believe he's pretty bad at blitz, relative to his classical.

But then he said he used the app, instead of a computer, and that explained it pretty much. The chess.com app is pretty horrible. I actually tried it out, and it takes 30 seconds for me to submit a single move for one of my daily games. Just one of the pretty bad elements of the app.

Completely nothing to do with openings being shown in chess.com live, except that it shows on the computer, and doesn't show (apparently) on the app, which is why that was ever brought up.

What's his OTB rating?

No clue, but he said he beats 1800s easily in OTB, but he's not titled/NM. So I just assumed ~2100.

Yeah, I beat 1800 easily too. I often use BS openings just to fk with them.

Not sure I could be 2100 blitz here though. Maybe I'll try when sober.

Yeah, absolutely. Reading the word "trap" or "gambit" magically makes them do the best moves and they end up winning the games.

To learn an opening you don't need to see the right moves, you just need to see the word "gambit".

You know, the very exact same thread was created few weeks ago by one of our brainless trolls.

They are creating new accounts now?

Or if you are being serious and you are not a troll, then with all due respect your concern is absolute nonsense.

As for the app stuff, personally I have not had any problems with it.

I like it, when you are bored on the bus or anywhere else you can play some games right on your phone.

The OP, I believe has a legitimate point. I disagree with it, but I don't think it's necessary to dump on him or her. Yea, nay or abstain.

In Animal Farm too everyone shrugged off little changes failing to understand their long term effect.

The simplest way to answer this question is to pretend you are playing live and chess.com is a bystander named Chris standing by the board watching your game. You play a move and Chris immediately tells your opponent what gambit you just played. Do you want to Oscar Slap Chris?

I'm pretty surprised at how many people are like "it doesn't matter", "grow a pair", etc. Clearly it is wrong. Like simonpalmer1 said, you don't want someone standing next your game and telling the players that a specific opening is being played. Once you name it, it can spark memories or cause you to think differently about the position. Also I don't see why they would want to keep it there. I only just noticed it after a bunch of games on this platform, so I don't think many are using it that much, just take it off.
