I think it works the same way as you getting a chess coach without chess.com; the advantage of doing it through chess.com is these coaches go through a verification process, so you should be more certain of their coaching ability and credentials for teaching chess.

Should you do it? It depends on your situation. Chess coaches can certainly help if you have the money to spend on a coach. Everyone's journey is different. A chess coach isn't required to get better, but they can certainly help; a coach can offer insights that are invaluable and tailored to you; that said, they can't force you to do the work, nor can they magically boost your rating if you don't put in the effort yourself.

My own personal journey, I reached 1500+ chess.com rapid rating without any chess coaching or help.

About 1500-1900, I had one or two people who helped me, but it wasn't regular, or it was limited. I never had a chess coach where I paid money like a usual transaction, but one of those friends was a chess coach years ago; we would analyze some of my chess games once a week and I would analyze some of their games with them. It was just as friends helping each other (even though they were higher rated), but that was the closest I ever had to real chess coaching, so I still consider them my "coach" even though I haven't seen them in many years.

From 1900+, I was back to working on my own again. A chess coach isn't required, but it can certainly help a ton if you are ready for it.
