Should I trade when I have a space advantage?

I have just reached 900 ELO in blitz a week ago, and I often sees my opponent(as black) play the Alekhine’s Defense (or any ‘modern’ openings that allows me to have a huge space advantage. Basically I just gain a lot of space but I always struggle with winning against openings like this.

I analysed my games and I realised that the eval bar always slowly dropped in the middlegame when I started to trade my pieces. So, I am now a little bit confused if the reason the eval bar dropped was because of the trading of pieces or just because of my inaccurate moves.

Please help me on this question, I have been struggling to pass 900 for a while now.

If there are no other things to consider, then NO you should not trade pieces, when you have the space advantage.

It's basic strategy that you should try to keep the pieces on the board as you have more space to maneuver them around.

Your opponent, who is in a cramped position, probably wants to trade pieces (at least if they know what they are doing).

Now of course there could be other things to consider so you do not want to apply this strategy without giving any thought to other factors (just like any general guidelines of chess strategy).

When You Have Space Advantage Normally You Want Open Up Line or File To Attack,,, Trade Pieces is Good When Your Opponent Have Long term Weakness Like Weak Pawn.

If Your Opponent Didnt Have Some long term Weakness,, As General Principle Trade Pieces Help Them To Equalize position

Yes don't trade but sit and wait for your opponent to blunder(you manuevre your pieces in the mean time). If you see he is not blundering, then go for the kill and attack your opponent.
