Should It Be A Limit Of How Many Correspondence Chess Games You Can Play?

Hello dear chess.com members.

Few months ago I played 130 online chess games here at the same time and I thought "wow that's crasy, how can I do that?!" So for some time I stopped making new games, and stopped register in team matches and tournaments and I'm playing 56 now and I hope to play 10-20 games soon. What do you think? Should chess players be allowed to play so many games? Some more then 1000!! Do these chess players enjoy playing so many games? Do they like it? Is this some kind of addiction? Do you think it should be a limit? "Chess.com Max Of Online Games Is 200" or something like that?

You ask the question but don't really give a reason.

Why do you think there should be a limit?

Because I think it's not good for people to play so many games. Maybe think for three seconds for one game and is maybe playing 700-1000 games. I think the people that play so many games don't put much thought to the game like I did when I played over 100 games at the same time.

The rule is not to bite off more than you can chew I've seen people play 600-1020 CC games at once online but their crazy no human being could keep up the pace with that many games consistently and have a life I don't know what their trying to prove.

So you think there should be a limit because people are building bad chess habits by moving so quickly?  By the same token then are you also against blitz and bullet chess and suggest chess.com implement a minimum time limit of, say, 30|0 in live chess?

I think "by the same token" is game quantity (not speed) and so would be playing too many live chess games at once. 

If you're a premium member, I believe there's no upper limit (us lowly free members can only play one live chess game at a time).

That's not the same. Bullet game takes 2 minutes but 3 days per move games takes 2 months or more. It takes much more time and you have to move in every single game over and over again.

Thinking for 3 seconds is the same.

But ok, you're saying it's bad because their opponent is trying hard and so the person playing many games at once isn't a suitable opponent?  You're playing hard to get.

If it's just the quantity of games why does he mention thinking time and not putting as much though into it?  In this case he still hasn't explained his reasoning.

I a going to play 1000 games in one month.

That sounds a nice, round number.  Figuring 30 moves per game during the month, that's barely 1,000 moves/day (just 42 moves/hour if you're at it 24 hours/day, or a leisurely 90 seconds per move).

There is a limit.  Try and start 1000+ games, it's very difficult.  You can't have more than 10 open seeks at anytime, and you can't start a new open seek if you have a bunch of games in which it is your move.  So then your only option is to join tournaments, and there are only so many of those at any given time, and that is severly limited unless you are a paying member.  So there is a limit to how many games you can play despite chess.com's claim on the home page of "unlimited chess games".

My opinion? No, I think it's sadly just the way it is. When you play many games you think less then when you play few games.

I really like chess and sometimes i lose my focus cos i play to many games in a row, so i enjoy it but i think its better to stop when u think you will lose youre focus. The limit of games is different for each player.

Play as much as you want. Thats why you pay to be a member...There shouldn't be a limit on anything. I know people who play several hundred CC games at once. Whatever floats your boat.

I agree w NaturalProduct....whatever floats your boat.....I play an average of 10 to 15 games....sometimes up to 20 but not more than that....I guess its got to do w time too...I dont have time (or the energy)  to play 100 games ....oiiii

15-30 is more than enough for most. Have struggled for a long-time due to being sucked-in/pressurised to play team-match games (including the OP!).

This prevents being able to concentrate on any one game solely and often leads to frequent timeouts.

Naw, ya' can't play too many games at once or anyother way..Chess is like chicks and beer! But w/o tha' blabb'in and going pee-pee alote.

Now lets say there was a nasty limit on # of games..Well that # would naturally be the factorial of 64.

It's definitely an addiction of international epidemic proportions.  Do you think we could get the UN to pass a resolution on this urgent matter?

If you play way too many games to be any good at them, then you're only hurting yourself. Why should there be a limit?

Hey, maybe we could get the mayor of NYC to weigh in on this one; he's already banned any soda larger than 16 ounces. I'm sure he has an opinion as to how many chess games are deleterious to homelife, work, reading, sleep, and exercise.
