Your King is trapped and you lose by suicide.
Should we get rid of stalemate?

A big N O..
This game cannot be improved any further in terms of its rules..
What would be interesting is allowing castling whilst being checked. But still not through check. But that will also probably not be a good thing for chess.

I like your idea.

if you're shortsighted enough to leave your opponent without a legal move in a winning position, you deserve to lose half a point.
from a lost position, the presence of the stalemate rule allows for a chance to swindle half a point.

I would say 3/4 to the STALEMATED player and 1/4 to the one who stalemated their opponent.
Or better yet, 12/17 to the initiating player who stalemated their opponent, and 5/17 to the stalemated player.
Just to keep it simple.
No I love it. Saved me from many a loss. I am a bit of a Draw/ Stalemate master! Grandmaster maybe. If someone can't finish thats on them. If you stalemate and your winning, your game needs work. That is rookie stuff.

We should not get rid of stalemate. I know that sometimes it's really bad, when you're about to win but you stalemate by accident. I know those times are tough but stalemate has been here for a long time and there are even stalemate patterns. If we get rid of stalemate, chess will be different and it might not even be fun anymore. I remember during those times where I was really bad at chess and I would lie to my friends that it's checkmate and I won which in reality I stalemated by accident. It was fun times and I do not wish for stalemate to be removed. I will quit chess if they remove stalemate.

Same. Once I got into a school chess team because of a stalemate. The guy I played was pretty bad, he blew a piece.

Haha, those must be good times

Lie? For shame. But ya I used to think if they couldn't move you won. I love the stalemate. My record would be much worse if not for it. Now I rarely draw unless I am down and mean to. Early on you draw by mistake but if keep doing it your not finishing enough games and learning from past mistakes. Again there are certain things you can do to increase your draw chances. Once you get smoked its time to set up the draw.

Or how about 16/32s to the player who stalemated. But only 4/8ths to the player who got stalemated?
🤔🙂

++ It makes no difference. Chess is a draw even if stalemate is changed to a win.

Sheer nonsense. With no-stalemate rule virtually all pawn-up endings are a win.
Stalemate is the cornerstone of all endgame theory.
And those of us who have studied it, are not about to throw all that theory away, for no reason.
