Should we have 2 different ratings?

I have been playing blitz for quite some time on this website. What I found is that the quality of my chess play decreases dramatically when I'm inebriated. This of course brings down my rating, which isn't fair because it doesn't fairly represent how good I actually am.

My suggestion is for chess.com to introduce 2 separate ratings.

1. A player's drunk rating

2. A player's sober rating

This should equalize things. Are you guys in favour of my 2 rating system?

Ok so I haven't been able to figure out the details exactly but it would go something like this:

1. Log into your chess.com account as usual

2. Then select the game you wish to play as is already standard

3. But then a window is prompted after you click on your desired game asking "Are you drunk?"

There you will have an option to select "Yes" or "No"

Again this could be improved on. I'm just trying to get the idea out there so we can begin working on it.

You really don't have anything better to do?

But what if the player lied?

If you developed and sold a breathalyzer attachment for desktop computers, this could even be a money-maker!

Why lie? You have to ask yourself a question do I want to be considered a high drunk rated player or a serious player. And obviously the non-drunk rating is going to be the most respected one. If you want to waste your time pretending to be drunk when you're actually sober your rating will be too close to your real rating, so people will be skeptical. Playing drunk blitz when you're actually sober is like using an engine. People will know. Thanks for your input.

I agree, if the difference between 10 minute time controls and 30 minute time controls is great enough to warrant players having separate ratings then the difference between playing sober or intoxicated most certainly does too.

But if there are separate drunk and sober ratings, it only makes sense that eventually there will be separate drunk and sober tournaments. This is why its important to catch those sneaky pseudoinebriated sand-baggers.

... (although... now that I think of it... since they are not really drinking alcohol, perhaps we should refer to them as "tea-baggers").

What?! I've always considered playing sober was tantamount to cheating!

I probably do, but this is what I choose to do.

You chose to be the forum's clown/troll? Congrats!

Yes in OTB, but online they have different rules. Thank you for pointing that out.

I've been cumulating all the differences between online and OTB chess. Perhaps that should be added to this discussion: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/online-chess-rules-vs-otb-chess-rules

Or we could test the players, and I have a failproof way to determine whether somebody is drunk or not. Just look at this photo:

This all actually makes a lot of sense if you really think about it.

Maybe your parents can sign a waiver or something. I don't know I'm not a lawyer.

Should we also get a rating for when we are pooping?

How about a left hand rating and a right hand rating

One day chess can be featured in the olympics with 32 categories..

You think so?
