Should We Introduce GM Lite Title in Chess?

Inflation is rampant in the kingdom of Chess. The GM title has lost its value and become senseless.

How can a 2500 GM be in the same company with Carlsen and Caruana?

We should:

A) Introduce Super GM title

B) Label all as GM Lite😁 leaving only the best with GM title

C) No changes

D) Other

It is not so. Becoming a GM is a rare accomplishment, achieved by one in a thousand tournament chess players after thousands of hours of work.

You should accord it more respect.

Obviously, you don't get the problem.

As Murakami says, if you couldn't understand something without explanation, you won't be able to understand it with an explanation either.

I think I qualify for the "Patzer for Life" title!

You're a National Master. Ok, then I think I qualify for an Ultra-Patzer Lite titlecry.png

I WAS a National Master...not anymore!.....and the Polish GM who beat me in Iceland made me feel like a patzer!

A.

There needs to be a next tier.

Not sure what it should be called.

Super Grandmaster? Ultra-grandmaster?

Something.

There are just too many GM's out there, who are completely obscure. This si not what the title was supposed to mean, when it was conceived.

@varelse1 Absolutely agree with you.

The only problem is that the term GRAND is supposed to already represent the top of scalesurprise.png

That's why I pick B) GM LITE

which in turn shows the lightness and DIET quality of 2500 something "GM"s, while leaving the Grandness of GRANDMASTER to true GMs!

You might feel like a patzer, but only a True Patzer would ask the following question.  What about your position after ... f5 would cause you to resign?

I was surprised at first too. What I, as an Ultra Lite, can now see is that the f-pawn is taboo as Bxf3 ensues making havoc with White's pawn formation. If Sc3, trying to defend the e-pawn, then Nf6, and pawn is either gone, or Bxf3 comes anyway.

Kamalakanta will best explain to us

Yes to GM Lite title. The best players are being grouped in with a bunch of kids.

Running a poll on Twitter too.

Not many votes yet, currently looks like this (I'm that Bgrin.png)

Seems to me like C) is going to win.

Apparently, people are reluctant to changes no matter how bad things may be

Your analysis, or a cheap-chip engine's?

Don't delegate your human chess intelligence to machines!

Haha, I liked that!

Yes, I do leave them menial work, while still trying to think on my own without replacing it with their artificial "intelligence"

I do think grandmasters shouldn't be in the company of Carlsen and Fabiano. So there are only 2 options left. Option A or Option B.
