Stuff Non-Chess Players Say

I wonder if someone could create a chess card game. You know, they have a monopoly card game and it's quite fun. Not as fun as the original board game, obviously. They made a card game out of it because it's such a classic and loved game. So why not make a chess card game?

Looks like someone has created something like it. That was posted in 2011 so I'm not sure how serious they were about developing/selling the game or what. Anyway, I thought I was the first person to think of it. LOL. <_<'' Sounds like a cool idea, yeah?!

The problem I have with it is that it is a game of "chance" and chess is a game strategy and tactics, void of chance.

@ December: Where did you get the 4-way mat? I've been wanting one.

Yeah, true, I did not like that. So maybe someone could create a chess card game that deals with strategy and tactics instead of chance.

Allie. It seems like you've never heard of this: http://royalchess.com/

I have a 4-way chess mat and 4 sets of pieces, with 4 decks of Royal Chess cards. Boba Fett is correct in regards to chance, because in order to move a piece, you must have the corresponding card. It's a very good game to play with non-chessers, the kind that never played before, to introduce them to the game. I could write a paragraph or 2 on the rules that we use, because they are not the same as traditional chess...but I won't.

Interesting... thanks for sharing! Looks like Royal Chess is played with the chess set and it's "fast-paced." Maybe a chess card game could be created that's independent from the board and pieces, which I think would be the main point of it. Like the monopoly card game is played without the monopoly board set. Also, I'd vote to get rid of the fast-paced nature of that card game. Chess isn't meant to be fast-paced.

Just can't please me I guess. LOL!!!!!!

Everytime you type boba I'm reminded of boba the drink.... hahaha.. oh goodness... if you ever need something sweeet, drink some boba!

There's such a big stigma forming against sodas. I'm happy, but that probably means I should stop drinking coca-cola. It's not like I drink it all that often but sometimes, yeah, I do.

But boba... yuuuuuuum yum yum

I remember drinking boba and playing chess with my friend on a makeshift board. Or a black & red checkers board. ha. Good times. Her pawns were really racing up the a and h files of the board! haha <_<

Magic The Gathering and other card games take money to actually get better and build your deck. So if you like spending money to improve your deck then I guess it's a cool hobby. But with chess, you just need to devote time to study and to play the game, etc. It's not about spending money to directly improve.

(Even with that said, I collect 1st generation Pokémon holo cards but I don't play the game. I'm not trying to be a great card collector or anything. I just love first generation Pokémon!)

Magic and Pokémon both appear to have originated in the 90's, back when I was a younger kid. I might argue Pokémon is more of a classic because of its populatity etc. but you can disagree if you'd like. haha. The point is, both seem to be classics, based off of my one second of Internet research.

Mtg is far more popular than pokemon and yugioh with 250,000 sanctioned events worldwide. 3x pokemon and 1.5x Yugioh from what surveys I have seen.

Btw I meant instead of pokemon which is the same thing :).

WELL.........

Pokémon has its own TV show. Years and years of TV shows, I might add. Their most recent is Pokémon X & Y, which I don't really care for since I only grew up with the first three generations: Kanto region, Johto region, and Hoenn region. Too much information I know but I like it Laughing Pokémon has various video games such as Pokémon Blue, Crystal, Sapphire (my favorites)... Lots of merchandise, etc. I also think more people have heard of Pokémon. And my goodness... Pikachu! I don't even know what the most popular creature/card is in Magic. I admit, Magic's card game is more popular and practical than Pokémon. But then again what else is Magic other than a card game?

So I typed all of this out of fun. And to defend Pokémon ;)

dragonair234

Yo.... they should make a chess piece Pokémon......... just sayin'

Well, I know possibly next to nothing about Pokeman. Since I know so little about it, I feel that you defending it is unnecessary as I don't have anthing bad to say about it. I do know about Pikachu, Ash, and Squirtle. He's a Squirrel and a Turtle. A Squirtle.

With that being said Allie, perhaps I can conjure up something for a pokeman chess peice. How about a Bishight. It's a Bishop. It's a Knight. A Bishight. Of course a Bishight can jump over pieces and move on diagonals. So it's a Clergy riding a horse, you see. This means that if you Fianchetto a Bishight on a long diagonal your opponent's Rook is surely dead meat, regardless if the Knight Pawn is there or not!!! Pretty cool, yes?

The other dude seems to think Magic is more popular than Pokémon, so I was responding to his - ummm - misrepresentation. LOL. And bishight sounds kind of like a curse word. Maybe they should make a set of "adult" Pokémon. I would NOT condone that. But it would be kind of interesting, I suppose. Pretend I didn't type that.

How about this...

Can you tell me which Pokémon was Ash's first? And which Pokémon wouldn't follow Ash's commands? lol

@ December: Thenks, I will check that site out. All I need is the board. I may make one.

dragonair234

At my university's art gallery, someone made a real chess set. I thought that was pretty cool.

I would make my own chess set but what the heck would I make it out of? Play-Doh? -.-

akafett

Being a 3D CAD artist, I have plans to make mine and rapid prototype them. Laughing

I think Ash's first Pokémon was Pikachu, since that's in the very first episode and all. hehehehe.

I think pikachu was first and charizard was the one that wouldn't obey?...

You're the pokeman woman here, Allie you would know better than I would. I just depended on google for information when I searched for it.

Next pokeman. How about a Keeween. It's a hybrid of a King and a Queen. It moves and captures like a Queen but you cannot move a Keeween into check nor pass through check.

There's Nidoqueen and Nidoking. But they're not chess pieces. hahaha
