Guys this is new for me... I just got back from playing chess in a bar with a friend. During our second game the karaoke started... but we kept playing xD One of the waiters asked where I got my tounament style board, cause his board at home wasn't portable, and I told him USCF Sales (of course). Even pulled up the site on my phone (; I wonder if we'll play there again?

I thought playing in a bar would be supppper distracting... and if it was a tournament w/ prize money then yes it would be. But casual chess? I thought it was fun... We got a good amount of second glances. lol

So yeah... that's my update Laughing

I had a Paul Morphy moment. I played 5 games yesterday at pool-side in less than 2 hours. One game, I gave my opponent Queen + Bishop odds. I won all of them easily.

Very nice! When I read The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis there were lots of references to Paul Morphy. The fictional character chess prodigy, Beth, really fancied Paul Morphy's style of play. It was brought up many times in the novel. lol

Such a bad chess day for me! HA... Dropped a rook OTB and dropped a queen in a correspondence game.

GM Anish Giri tweeted that Pawn Sacrifice (with Tobey Maguire as Bobby Fischer) is "spectacular".... I am going to do everything in my power to see that movie when it comes out, or at least on its opening week. I've been excited about this for months now! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeejkfkhadfjhadfkjhyyyayyyy!

I like it only slightly better than my rating. It looks like the guy pushed the other guy out of the frame of the picture!

Yours look like ge far and you probably took it off of google images

That's so true! I like the text you made on your picture. Any font that I might use over a jpg will be a premade font from Apple. Some of them look nice but I never customized a font myself.

A friend invited me to see the upcoming movie Pawn Sacrifice with him cause I mentioned I'd be seeing it (Tobey Maguire as Bobby Fisher) but I said no, cause I'm seeing it with chess club friends!! But I suppose if any plans change and they can't go, then I'd consider seeing that movie with a non-chess player, only cause *I* need to see this movie.

Hey, Veggie. You need to zoom in on that new avater so poeple can tell what it is. Kinda like what I did with my awsome avatar.

A long long time ago, while I was traveling in western Canada, California and Mexico, I met this very old man in a café in a small town in Mexico. We started playing chess, drinking coffee and talking spanish. It ended up that we played every day for a week and for several hours a day. Four or five of his friends would come and try and sociolize with the old man and to try to pull him away from the chess games but to no avail, he would shoo them away saying don't bother us, we are playing chess! We had a great time! We became friends. I was quite impressed that he would prefer to play chess with a young unknown man instead of hanging out with his non-chess playing friends. This was a cool episode of my travel. Chess is universal and it unites chess players, sets them apart from non-playing, perhaps less intelligent people. For a long time, certain non-playing chess people considered chess nerdy (of course, one critizises what one does not understand) but no longer, chess is COOL!

This is a beautiful story! I wish there were a more prominent way we could document these stories. I know "but" wanted to make an index for these pages of comments however it keeps growing and it's hard to keep up sometimes. I bet you wonder what this old man is doing now, or what became of him.

My non-chess friend was talking to me yesterday and incidentally asked if I had any chess-related t-shirts, and of course I do. One of them is Uncle Sam pointing and saying, "I want YOU to play chess!" It's funny and he laughed at me describing it, then said I'm such a chess nerd.

Now I find that a compliment!! But like you said, people without an understanding of something (let's say, chess) think very differently about it. Like classifying it as nerdy, geeky, whatevs.
