Hello everyone,

in this diagram we see the english attack in najdorf variation and black just played e5. Now as we know white has two options, either knight b3, or knight f3. And my question is: What is the idea of knight f3? Also in my opinion it doesnt really prevents bishop e6.

E2 with an eye for g3. You don’t want to block the f pawn because black will most likely castle kingside.

No it does not prevent Be6 but white can always try Ng5 to attack the Bishop. I believe the line goes something like 7. Nf3 h6 8. Bc4 Be6 so white challenges d5 with the light squared Bishop.

Hello guys, if you are interested in learning everything about the Najdorf i will be uploading a serie of 6 videos (introduction, typical endgames, typical sacrifices, typical structures, theory and model games) in my Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaP33llsxmWoKfBP8Na_h6A i already uploaded the 1st one! Go check it and suscribe... The ideas of Nf3 are 1. Ng5 in some positions 2.  Nh4-f5 is a typical manouvre and 3. Press e5 pawn to make d5 break harder.
