Simple move,great plan!

A simple pawn move 20... e5!(the simple pawn move)  when the result is not seen immediately remains unnoticed, but after a relative number or series of moves only then it can be recognize as part of a great plan of attack. It can be compare to a solid punch in the tummy of a well conditioned boxer on the sixth round and the effects really shows on the latter rounds. In boxing,if both are aggressive are like chess players that are  both attackers.Attack and counter attack is the norm.Like in this showcase.Frank James Marshall is a known American chess attacker defeated by a simple move,a pawn move really.

Black's plan came up after a series of tactics and tempo moves. The destruction of White's pawn structure of it's castled King having a weakness of a g semi-open file leads Black to a simple pawn move. A sort of vacating sacrifice or space clearance move.Really it was an investment sacrifice.

Marshall,Frank James/USA vs.Stoltz,Goesta/Sweden 0-1

I think its funny how many exclams you tack onto the end of black's moves

What I find funny in the chess world is that there are many wannabe annotators, usually you should read the description, in a normal chess game there is usually a max of one or two 1 exclam moves and only one double exclam move same goes with question marks. well dubious and interesting moves may have different limits to them in game but once again it is very rare to find a game with more then 2 or 3 dubious or interesting moves for either side.

dubious move (?!)

interesting move (!?)

meh... this is a rant from a young aspiring annotator, so this is a amatuers opinion.

But that shouldnt take anything away from this brilliant game... by one of the old greats.

Black was probably quite proud of this game ...
