Is it actually possible to improve at chess or is it just a natural skill? No matter what videos I watch or how many games I play, I just lose every single game, no matter what. I’m generally intelligent (work as an engineer on nuclear subs) but for some reason chess is something I can’t do. So when I see 5 year old grandmasters I think it must just be natural ability? Any opinions welcome

Seeing five-year-old grandmasters can be intimidating, but these young prodigies typically start learning chess at a very early age and often have specialized training. Your journey is unique, and progress is measured by your own improvement, not by comparing yourself to outliers.
Hey, it is possible to improve at chess! It is discouraging to find younger grandmasters, and although I am not great at chess, thinking through the moves and doing blunder checks helps a lot. Over time, chess skill develops, just practice. Maybe check out the chess.com lessons, those helped me a lot.
