slow response time server?

I checked my WiFi connection and my ping was 9ms, upload speed 5Mbps and download speed 20 Mbps. I usually play 3 min games with no increment, but still lose between 0,5 and 1 second in each move. Is this a server problem, a connection to my router problem or a phone problem? I play on a smartphone. Might the phone / app be the problem? Very annoying to lose on time due to slow response time between moves...

The servers are in the US. The time to your local server is just the first of many hops around the world to get to chess.com. Have you done traceroute?

The response time of ,5 to 1 second doesn't seem out of line with that distance.
