Snacks in Tournaments

Snacks in tournaments is a pretty common thing nowadays, people bring things like: granola bars, candy, and pizza into the playing hall not caring at all if it might be annoying or distracting to other players.

What have you encountered in the playing hall?

What are your thoughts?

Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated!

Yes I have encountered this.

I think people who eat during a game are stupid jerks.

Generally I wear head phones so I don't have to listen to the fat cows slurp down their disgusting over processed poison food.

I rarely ever bring anything to a game, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as it doesn't make too much noise. There are a lot of annoying and distracting things an opponent can do and I think eating during the game is far from being the worst.

I've never eaten during tournament play (though I like a pint of beer within easy reach) or experienced an opponenent who did.

Pizza at the chessboard is taking things too far, greasy fingers on the pieces is just yuck.

I drink 2 500ml bottles of diet coke every game.

Doesn't help my nerves one bit.

Was the user-name "DietCokehead" already taken?

I don't know, but Vanilla Cokehead refers to more than just my obsession with diet coke. :p

I understand that sloppy and noisy eaters are annoying, but that's no reason to extend your rage to the well-mannered snackers. Sometimes, I just might not have a choice-when school ends at 5 PM and the matches start at 6 PM (lasting for a few hours),  I do have to eat. I'll eat something quiet and non-messy, or take it away from the chess board.

But games last for hours, I don't think it's completely fair to rule out snacks. Be tolerant of others (and this applies to both snackers and fasters).
