Transcranial direct current stimulation is a promising treatment where your shock certain regions of your brain for cognitive benefits. Depending on the region that receives electricity, different outcomes are reached. IT has been studied to improve depression, help with memory issues in alzheimers, improve concentration in ADHD and even accelerated learning. One Darpa study by the u.s military claims it halved the training time of a professional sniper.

it seems like a perfect tool for an improving chess player, with possible benefits to concentration, speed of learning and even neuroplasticity which is claimed to decrease as we get older.

There are drugs that induce neurogenesis, wonder if that would help.

nootropics have been studied on the issue, most have mixed results, modafinil has shown promise although some people lose on time with it.
but tdcs has none of the risks of nootropics. it is completely safe.
