So apparently I just beat a NM?

I just played this blitz game and was stunned to see he was a NM who was rated at around my nooby level. I would think he couldn't be a NM but it was in red, which I believe means it has been verified?

If he is then I apologise but I'd like some people to weigh in here, fake or what?

I think he is a NM in Pakistan. He subscribed August 26 on chess.com so perhaps his rating is not yet entirely accurate.

As for loosing a blitz game online, that can happen to a National Master, especially if he is not quite used to play online. They are not invincible, you know. ;)

I would have been more surpised if you had claimed a victory over an IM or GM though.

He has a Fide Rating of 2070.

I confirm that you did beat an NM from Pakistan. His rating would stabilize in few days time. I knew chess.com has a pratice to recognize NMs of USCF, it was pleasant to see that they did recognize one from Pakistan too. 'NM' award is awarded in Pakistan to the first eight position holders in National Championship. Currently the highest rated players in Pakisan are 'Syed Ahmed Ali 2355 (awarded CM in current Olympiad) and Mehmood Ahmed Lodhi 2330 (IM). Other Pakistani members can correct me.

Lol, goes to show how much cheating is going on here.

FIDE NM with 2070 having a blitz rating of 1373 (delta of 697 points)!

I was wondering why I'm not improving points-wise (I'm not FIDE rated) but my blitz rating here is a solid 1621, meaning that if I wanted to get FIDE rated I'd be a 2318.

In other words, strenght-wise I'm a FIDE Master (FM).

Zigwurst

@Benzo that's an odd way to put it :p

People in Pakistan dont have any opportuunity to play in FIDE rated games. The only we play are Chess Olympiads. For every Olympiad FIrst 5 from the recent held National Championship are given oportunity to play. So, maybe he participated in one Olympiad. Blitz is currently gaining popularity in Pakistan. Some old players are not good in Blitz.

He is not FIDE NM but NM Pakistan. And apparently gets confused while playing 'fast chess'. Simple. Challenge him for slower game 30 min or 45 min game. ;-)

Once I beat a FIDE rated GM. The only reason being that after the gap of 10 years the first game he played was with me. He was rusty. In a re-match he checkmated me in 17 moves.

Zeyrion

I'm not trying to imply anything by this post as in - me being better than a NM (which would obviously be ridiculous). I was just wondering. Thanks for the responses.

Waqar Ahmad Madni (Waqas_Ahmad) is semi-retired 40 years old player who is mostly into organizing tournaments in Pakistan.

hmmmm

The thing which confuses me is that his name is 'Waqar Ahmad' and not 'Waqas Ahmad', maybe his brither is using his account for playing 'Blitz' only.

Yeah, I suppose it could be a family member or friend playing... although why not make their own account?

Maybe that family member wants to use privilges of a membership account.

True. Or maybe someone at a coffee shop noticed he was a master, then snuck his laptop while he wasn't looking and began gleefully expunging his rating points! Frown

No, Faisal Saeed a Staff member from Pakistan is his friend (few friends). I sent Faisal a note regarding this thread. I can post 'Waqar Madni original games from recent 'National Championship'. He does not play like a 1300ish. He is atleast an expert strength player.

Good for him! We all have our off-days though. Like one tourmant irl I was beaten by an opponent about half my rating, probably because I was distracted by the scent of tuna wafting from a nearby table...

That wouldn't explain why his max blitz rating is only 1472.

Well Sir, I've only played like 3 blitz games on this site, all of which I won and were against noobs because I felt like squishing someoneTongue Out I'll get to more serious games soon!
